| The Crucible - my experience |
In case any of you are interested... I went to The Crucible last week, saw 7 or 8 sessions, good value at £12 a session. My first impressions were that the place is TINY, it's only about two thirds or less as big as it looks on't telly. You go through the doors and it's in-your-face. The views are not bad, although it gets hot down by the front rows. I recommend sitting 5 or so rows back. The best view I had was when I was sitting just behind where the players sit. When you're in the front row you're within spitting distance of the table. The two table situation is AWFUL because you hear everything that's going on on the other table, they turn the crowd volume down for the TV coverage. The crowd are, on the whole, extremely disrespectful for chatting and laughing when the frame on their table finishes and play is still going on on the other table. Why can they not stretch the tournament out to a month? The commentary earpieces are worth every penny. The cue-zone is overhyped, there's nothing much to see there (unless you have a thing for Hazel Irvine) except for a lovely glass display cabinet with all the ranking event trophies in it. At least it's free to get in. It's just a Portakabin anyway. I would go again, but only if I could get a good seat for a (semi)final match with only the one table. |
