Was on the beach by 8:30ish...and paddling out . First thing I noticed was the nice water color/clarity. Bunches of bait fish, pelicans, and some kinda jack or mackerel hitting on the bait. Had one of the mac's nearly hit me on the paddle out... Nice size (head to + on the bigger sets) kinda dis-organized not too bad a crowd and vibe. I get out and check to see who are the "players" and the "wanna-be's". The "players" are those that catch most of the waves they paddle for and the "wanna-be's" don't. It's a simple formula but it works for me; give respect, get respect. If I let one go and you don't or can't make the wave then I'll note it and might not let the next one go. Float a lil N. and then get caught inside and paddle like heck before I decide to hit it back to the rip for the "free-ride" back outside. Some of the larger waves are breaking next bar out and kinda connecting through with just one or two guys on them so I head out cause I likes some big drops. First one I stroked for I couldn't get into but I don't have a long wait for my next opportunity. Catch a nice one at the peak and drop right and work it inside and pull out before it closes out. Make the paddle out this time and have a bit of a wait for the next big set to come through. Water is beautiful, clear, green with fish everywhere and a few man-of-war in the mix. Really enjoying life and glad I took a "mental health" day. Was joined by a guy outside and had a little chat while we waited. I get a lot of looks as I'm a body-boarder but I guess my "age" helps as well as my manors in the line-up. Had a nice three hour session before I get knotted with cramps. I didn't hydrate well before hand nor eat breakfast in my haste...bad move. Get out about 11:30 and change for the drive back gots things to do and people to see. Good day on the middle TX coast....
