| UltraWave 1988, anyone remember that? |
I have recently purchased an UltraWave surfboard custom made in 1988 (as was i) for =A336 on ebay. with the intention of some cheap thrills in the North Sea. However callas to my plan it is in need of repair, with small sections of delamination and lots of spider cracks, some dodgy looking previous repair attempts and flakey / splitting rails in some parts. now i realise that is some list as all these minors add up to a lot of work. but im sticking with it and will never burn this awsome loose hipped ledgend. Being inexperienced at repairs i ask: What do i do with spider cracks and long cracks coming in from the rail that havent quite opened yet but im sure will mid-wave? If a previous repair has cracks where it is bonding (well not bonding as it is) should i take it all out and make new? Any help in saving this retro piece would be greatly appreceated, i'll have some pictures of damage soon... |

One guy carved an 8'0" for the SS (specifically Threes, as if he had a clue, he was kind of a whack job but we just went along) with a concave section under the nose tapering to a round pin most like a shortboard. Looked like somebody took a long and short board and made one. That thing was a perfect dream to ride, and I borrowed it a lot. Maneuverable as a shortboard, easy to paddle, thin and light, but floated great, stupendous nose rider. If, in the prime of my surfing youth, I had had to choose one board to ride for the rest of my life, that would have been the one. ----- - gpsman |
