| Are there juggling-videos of historic value? |
Imagine someone who doesn't know anything about juggling and its cultural conditions asks you for some juggling videos in order to get an overview about juggling and its development (18xx - today). Which videos would you show that person? As there are tons of good juggling videos out there, I'm interested in finding out if there are any that one should have seen absolutely. You know, which ones are the essentials that still will be watched in 50 years or so because of their content. I know it's hard, but please try to mention up to 20 videos (not more!) that you think are important. Let's see where it gets us... have fun, thank you Jo -- ----== posted via www.jugglingdb.com ==---- |

I'd list the Jay Gilligan DVDs. His stuff is so new, experimental and different that a couple hundred years in the future people will probably look at them and say "oh, that's where this technique/idea originated". Also, the MRL (Manipulation Research Laboratory) DVD. As far as I know that was the first time anyone has held an experimental laboratory like that. And probably the Sean Mckinney DVDs. Sean was so different and cutting edge that I doubt his stuff will ever cease to inspire. -- ----== posted via www.jugglingdb.com ==---- |

As for the recent videos I would say : all of the Peapot videos, the Gandinis' ones (mediacircus) as well as Bouncing in Paris and the VSNB manipulation series. You may not like some of this, however I think no one would deny its historical interest. -- ----== posted via www.jugglingdb.com ==---- |

A particularly good book is 4000 Years of Juggling by Karl-Heinz Ziethen, but it's pretty hard to get hold of a copy. __ Az -- ----== posted via www.jugglingdb.com ==---- |

I've spent the last couple of days mentally formulating a list, and then come in to work today to find that between them void and ady have pretty much posted it. They've mostly hit videos of people who have made a real impact in the juggling world - the sort of performers who are responsible for major innovations - and if someone was interested in "juggling and its development (18xx - today)" then they'd make a great starting point. -Paul -- paulseward.com - a photo a day for 2008 100jugglers.org - 100 pieces of signed juggling promotional material |

> Do you have a reason for asking, aside from curiosity? > What is your list? It's mostly curiosity I think. Aside from this, I'm doing a juggling workshop at a school this week and decided to show the children some videos so they can see what juggling can be/feel like. Finally, I hadn't much time for the videos today, only a couple of minutes, so I showed them David Cain's '36 Types Of Juggling' and one of the Thomas Dietz videos, both different and suitable for beginners I think. As for me, I've not made such a list yet. But it certainly would contain footage of Rastelli, Brunn, Kiss, Biljauer, Kremo, Ignatov, McKinney, Gatto, the Peapot guys, Jerome Thomas, Michael Moschen, Michael Menes, The Gandinis, Barak Reuven, Michael Karas, Thomas Dietz, Stefan Sing, the swedish gang, Wes Peden and some others I've forgotten right here... there would be some convention-videos in it because there you get a good feeling for the juggling-atmosphere of today I think. cheers, Jo -- ----== posted via www.jugglingdb.com ==---- |
