If you're going to do BASE, make sure you land *away* from the cops.

A DAREDEVIL BASE jump from the top of an inner-city building has
delivered two men into the hands of the law.
While one man made a successful landing on Sydney's George Street, his
free-falling companion was not so lucky - landing directly in the path
of a passing police car.

The ill-fated stunt occured shortly after 3am, with locally patrolling
police chancing upon the the men's skyscraper dive during a routine
patrol.

After a short foot pursuit, the two men, both 27, were arrested with
their parachutes still attached.

The men, from Annandale and St Helen's Park, were taken to City Central
Police Station where they were charged with risking the safety of others
by jumping from a building or structure, which carries a fine of up to
$1000.

Inspector Brenton Lee, from City Central Police said police were
investigating how the two men had managed to enter the Meriton apartment
complex for the jump.

"They were not doing this as any sort of protest," Inspector Lee said.

"These guys just do it for themselves".

The men will appear at Downing Centre Local court on May 22.

"Thirty seven years ago, a Quarter Master, nearly knocked me over as he
thrust an L1A1 SLR into my hands and bellowed, "Keep that Rifle in Tip
Top Order so you can Kill your Countries Enemies with it before they
Kill You. These days, I do not have to visit exotic overseas countries
as my Countries Enemies are seen wallowing around our seats of
government, they guzzle and cavort at the Public trough so deeply they
make Caligula and Nero look like Church choir boys."
