learned something new ...

Safety Day this year gave me a new piece of knowledge that I didn't have
before, although it's one of those things that once I heard it, I realized
that I should have known it all along.

The owner of the C-208 indicated that if there was an emergency at less than
jump altitude that required landing the plane, then the door should be
latched (if possible) in the opened position. A less-than-ideal landing
might deform the fuselage to the point where the door might not be able to
be opened, trapping the jumpers inside or at least limiting their exits to
the other smaller doors. In the event of fire, this would be a severe
limitation on the survival rate.

A good thing to know.

Our Otter pilot told me this a few years ago. He can pretty much fly
anything with wings or rotors, and certainly thinks of most every
scenario ahead of time.

Indeed. Talk about it with your pilots...

I didn't know that either- thanks, Tony!
