A NY Yankee Hypothesis

I just talked to one of the most rabid NY Yankees fans that I know and
even though he lives here in Chicago, he treats Cubs fans like dirt --
like we don't know anything about baseball. He's condescending and
downright disrespectful. Given that baseball isn't something to fight
over since I really don't give a crap about any NY fans in New York
either, I thought I'd posit this question.

We agreed upon a hypothesis that can either be proven or disproven.

Do New York Yankee fans know more about their team than Chicago Cubs
fans know about their team? (I.e. rosters, ERA, BA, etc)

This doesn't mean who is a better team or who will win the world series.
I thought this would be a difficult problem to solve so I thought I
would share it with both of these fine newsgroups. It would be
interesting if someone could conduct a real survey and solve this
problem.

Duh.

Most Cubs fans are in it for the party. They like being Lovable Loser
Cubs fans. They don't give a crap about baseball. I mean, compare how
Cubs fans react to getting close but missing to what Red Sox fans were
like. Sox fans died a slow painful death every year, especially when
they got close. Cubs fans shrug, get another beer, and merrily sing
"There's always next year!"

Whenever Fred Merkle relents on his curse and the Cubs win another
World Series, Cubs fans will be bailing from the team like rats from a
sinking ship. The magic will be gone.

Raise your glasses, folks. Here's to June Swoon 2008.

Most Yankees fans just buy the hat. (If you want to talk about which
fans are the most knowledgeable, you should be talking about Red Sox
fans.)

How does he treat White Sox fans?

That is a hypothesis that can be proven or disproven? I see a number
of problems with it, starting with how you define "fans".

That was my reaction as well. Once we define who counts as "fans", how
are we to go about measuring their knowledge? What knowledge counts?
Just about the current team? What about the farm prospects? What
about the team history? Is the Cubs fan expected to be able to
comment on Al Spalding and Cap Anson? The Yankees fan on the reasons
for their poor showing in the early years?

Yeah and that year the ex-Cub first baseman who shall remain nameless
let a grounder pass between the ol' wickets to lose a world series for
Boston....Do you think the Cubs fans cared?

Well, I think one Yankees fan just proved *his* knowledge of the game.

Don't be an ass. Where did you get Yankees Fan?

If you knew *ANYTHING* about baseball, you'd accuse me of being a
Cardinal's fan.

If you knew *ANYTHING* about baseball history, you'd accuse me of being
a Giants fan.

If you knew *ANYTHING* about any history, you might even accuse me of
being a White Sox fan.

Pay attention!

Re: A NY Yankee Hypothesis

Short story: I worked with a true baseball fan...lived, breathed
baseball...all teams...just baseball. He took 6 weeks off and scheduled his
entire vacation so he could see a game in every major league park. Wrigley
was close to the last visit and he gave up the rest of his plans to stay at
Wrigley for three games. He said he never met more knowledgeable fans or
more loyal fans...and yes, he loved the party mood too.

Well, here's one Yankee fan that isn't smart enough to get away with
murder, or is she?

Ivonne Hernandez, 43, gunned her car at Matthew Beaudoin, 29, and his

Nashua, N.H., early Friday, witnesses and police said.
