| Net Run Yield plummets as Aussies depart. |
With Hayden and co leaving their respective franchises, the net run yield in the tournament has decreased dramatically proving one of many things. Local talent is seriously not upto the mark, take away the Aussies and a random Kiwi your tournament if mediocre. Chennai and Calcutta are facing the most net difference in their runs scored, Rajasthan and Delhi have chased more times so the effect is less noticeable, plus they have retired Aussies who continue to perform well for them. Yes IPL is a success but the brand package has to be maintained and i think a relook is required abt the icon player concept which insofar looks ridiculous bar Yuvraj. Charu Sharma the vacuous talkaholic commentator has certainly been fired due to the poor brand image development and performance (team selection was pitiful) of his franchise. Even the name is stupid, 'Royal Challengers'? I understand the baron wanting to name his franchise after his flagship brew but comon are they just challengers not winners, this is as ridiculous as IAH (Houston GB Intercontinental) being named just to add 'continental' to it , being that airline's hub city. |

Actually, if you use the same pitch, batting (especially scoring runs) becomes increasingly difficult. Yes, nice hypothesis that RR dropped since Aussies left, but statistically can't be proven without more data If true, then marketplace/globalization has done its magic again. i.e you pay for the best products irrespective of where it is manufactured. In the end, Indian franchises make money. We took the raw materials from Australia and produced a finished good (IPL Entertainment) |
