| (OT) Crusing down thru Pennsy... observations: |
While before the primary in Gettysburg it was nothing but Obama signs, after the fact in Scranton it's all about the Hillary. Runner up: Ron Paul Judging by the number of cars and trucks on the road if fuel costs really are that high it doesn't seem to actually bother anybody. After learning (more) about the workers in turn-of-the-century coal mines I can say once again that none of us have a thing to gripe about. On the flip side I can also say once again that unions WERE once a necessary idea, but are unneeded bloated bureaucracies in the days of OSHA, EPA, and rampant civil lawsuits. Anybody who says we don't manufacture anything in this country anymore hasn't seen the gigantic Procter & Gamble plant in Wyalusing. I couldn't get too close but a ballpark guess would be 60 truck docks down each side with the necessary manufacturing/warehousing building in between them to justify 120 truck docks. Truly massive! It was truly sad looking up at the towering Nicholson (Tunkhannock) Viaduct and realizing that thanks to environmental whackos they will probably never build another one like it. Sheetz is still the coolest convenience store ever. When I mentioned that it would be great if they came to NY the cashier (possibly a manager) replied "They can't. The taxes would kill us.". In keeping with that theme, when a vending machine on I-86 screwed me out of my apple danish I knew I was back in New York.
