1st May

I doubt I'll be doing any rowing related activities this coming May day on
North Uist, but there'll be lots to come this weekend.

I'm driving to Germany with a friend to pick up her new C1x and car-
top it back to Brussels. So a thoroughly rowing-related day which
involves neither water nor exercise.

It's a double holiday for us - May 1st and Ascension Thursday on the
same day, so Friday has been made a public holiday too :-)

If it's Ascension Thursday then it must be Tournai Regatta - a very
pleasant affair that occasionally gets some Brits over - Free Press
used to be regulars.

I shall be visiting my parents and thoroughly land-bound. But since my
father was a rower (probably what we'd call "elite" these days), and
since he's at least partly responsible for my contracting the infection
myself, I'll make sure that we drink a toast on Thursday to rowing and
to all my friends on r.s.r.

OK, well, we did it.
Behr Boatworks in Konigswinter was a comfortable drive of 250km/2h45
from Brussels, motorway all the way except for a small detour we made
to visit this local curiosity:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scherpenheuvel-Zichem

Mr Behr is a dealer in new and used boats operating out of an
aluminium hangar a long way from the nearest water. His shed was full
of delights, and he was happy to show them off and to relate their
provenance. Anybody want a championship-standard coxed four for a
very heavy crew, at a knock-down price, he's the man to see.

Anyway, here's Mr Behr, the boat and the new owner.

The trip back involved transiting a couple of diabolical weather
systems but I wasn't driving by then. Boat was introduced to the
Canal in Brussels today, apparently, and Ihear that both boat and
owner enjoyed the experience, and with a bit of luck madame will start
terrorising the long-distance circuit in a couple of weeks. For me,
the downside is that I've lost my regular doubles partner.

So ... will I be the only one to show and tell?
