| A serious question |
How do players cover their travel expenses when they lose in the first round? For example: Fish, how much does he get paid for his round loss? does this cover his travel expenses to US? |

Players are independent businesses; it's up to them to make the numbers work in their favor. Travel expenses are their own problem. Tournaments above a certain level must supply a per diem to cover hotels and daily expenses; tournaments also supply on-site food. At lower levels, tournament organizers may arrange for players to stay with local families. Players can and do pick up additional fees for publicity appearances of various types. All players also work the frequent flyer miles to get a certain number of free tickets and/or upgrades. In the case of an American player in Europe, the airfare from the US (which depending how he books his tickets may not be that expensive) is distributed among a number of tournaments - he didn't just fly over for a week. I'd think the really expensive jaunt if you lose in the 1R is the one to Australia at the beginning of each year. wg |
