Hatteras had loads of wind through Thursday (day one of the Fest)...I checked out on Friday, which was looking windless. Heard tales of windsurfers hitting the ocean on SUP's. |

We'll be hanging out with the BABA crew, staying at the Tides Inn - I think it's in Avon. I'm hoping to have a new Kona Longboard waveboard with me, so it's going to be waves everyday, baby, wind or no wind! Of course, we'll do plenty of sailing on the sound, and I definitely want to drop by the different launches, etc... I'm hoping to hook up w/ Bill, and if any other rec.dotters will be there please let me know, would love to meet and chat. |

Hey Josh...wish I could be there with you guys. I want to go back already. One of my best weeks there was in early May. SW 15-25 sunny & 70s for 7 days straight. We have been in a dry spell (wind-wise) for a little while, but it looks like SW returns next week! Perfect timing for your arrival Josh! Hopefully, sunny skies, warm winds, and fun surf! There's been wind everyday, not for long, and not insane 4.0, but planable wind everyday but yesterday! And the surf has been FIRING to top it all off! We'll keep you clued in to the happenings and what have yous! Well, sounds like I have been in a "dry spell" as compared to the southern crew?! I have not been in the h20 since the Ocracoke fest, but I don't catch every sesh since I only sail 5.3m and down, and usually avoid chasing wind since gas is now near $3.50/gallon on the OBX! Glad to hear its been hitting down south! Surf-wise, true its been happening on the offshore facing beaches... today looks fun in Nags Head. May have to hit it after work! Likely approaching the cost of ski lift tickets, especially for anyone driving down for an OBX weekend sesh from places like DC/Richmond! IWS is definitely a bonus to hedge against road sailing. Great thing we have this resource now as compared to the days when only the sky told us where the wind was blowing! Looks like perhaps Monday, and though next week for some returning strong SW flow. Luckily for me I have an option that's only 12 miles round trip, although I like sailing different places and chasing the wind, so I often end up crossing at least one bridge ($4-5 bridge toll around here) and driving in the 30 mile range. If that's rounded to two gallons of gas plus a bridge toll, that $12 a sesh. We definitely carpool more these days for the longer hauls. I'm really looking forward to some warm delta daze this summer... but it's 120 miles round trip w/ two bridge tolls :-( That's $40! Oh well... it's not like I can help myself, so might as well suck it up and have fun while I'm there. hehe kev > > Yea, sessions do burn some cash now! =A0Likely approaching the cost of > ski lift tickets, especially for anyone driving down for an OBX > weekend sesh from places like DC/Richmond! > > IWS is definitely a bonus to hedge against road sailing. =A0Great thing > we have this resource now as compared to the days when only the sky > told us where the wind was blowing! > > Looks like perhaps Monday, and though next week for some returning > strong SW flow. =A0Can't wait! > > Billwww.obxbeachlife.comwww.obxloopfest.com |

Can't wait! > > > Billwww.obxbeachlife.comwww.obxloopfest.com Bill, I use a long board in the surf with 6.2 and up sails. My skunk factor is nearly nil. I'm in the best windsurfing shape ever. I'm trying new moves with my short board more so now than ever when the wind does pick up. Dunno if that's the "new" way to be looking at windsurfing or not, but I no longer have the compelling need to hedge my enthusiasm to get to the water based on forecasts that may or not happen. Also, I seem to think some pretty epic stuff is a lot closer than it used to be. Been out in some insanely good waves with cross off 6-12 mph winds. Not sure I'll have to travel as much to keep the stoke alive... Here's a link to some shots from Brittany: http://www.kona-windsurfing.com/forum/read.asp?ID=316 BTW, I used to sail waves years ago with a vintage sailboard with a triangle sail with not battens and a dagger that I had to strap on my arm while wave riding. Been at it since 1983, am now 45 with the stoke still alive. :~) |
