Is the flatline upgrade really worth it?? I'm looking at getting either a
Piranha G3 or a Tippmann C98 and one of the things I'm looking at is the
different upgrades between them

been using a flatline for about a month. Like anything they have advantage
and disadvantage. So far I'm not as accurate in mid range as my friends,
but I can shoot a *lot* further. It also allows you to make shots that you
cannot make with a standard -- you can snake through small spaces where the
arc on a normal shot cause failure

I think it takes time to find the right paint, the right velocity and
aiming proficiency for flatline. [i'm using evil now, but am going to try
marbalizer if i can find any to see if they are better. blaze for me were
not good] I'm starting to get much better at using it -- it is really
cool.

The wind hurts it -- which is bad for me due to coastal weather. So I
might get a lapco barrel to use sometimes, but for now trying to get good
with flatline. Last game i made a sweet shot using the flat to get below a
set of limbs and brush.

If distance will make a difference for you, or you are in woods i'd
consider it

The Flatline works, sort of, but it has its quirks too. It can be kind of
picky on what kind of paint you use, the gun has to be held vertical, if
it's canted to one side the ball will drift in that direction too, but it
does throw a ball a little further than other barrels, although the range
and accuracy at really long range makes hitting anyone or breaking a ball on
them kind of unlikely. If you tend to spend a lot of time longballing
people, then it might be just what you're looking for, but if you're a
general-purpose player who likes to crawl and sprint and get in close some
of the time, then there are probably better barrels for your purposes. It's
kind of a specialist barrel, and it if suits your style of play then it's
worth it, but only you can decide if it does or not.

Re: Flatline Users

I have a Tippman... had it for about two months and I like it when I'm
using Marblizer paint. Anything else and I'm spitting broken balls. Very
frustrating then. So, as long as you stick to the right (usually higher
priced) paint, you should be fine. When it has good ammo, it kicks ass.

I'd like to know too, is this guy to be laughed at because he isn't paying

Let's see.... I have $1,500 to spend on a gun. I can get one Angel shooting
15 bps, or, I can get ten, 98 customs shooting 9 bps. To me, the decision is
easy.

Better yet, get one Sniper II and hit twice as many opponents and spend the
rest of the money on actually playing the game rather than just streaming
paint at the landscape. The twelve hundred bucks you save will pay for a
lot of days of paintball. ;-)

Re: Flatline Users

I actually prefer my first marker, a GT2000, over the tippman. It can fire
super fast when I need it to (I don't play speedball so a high bps doesn't
matter to me), and it's accurate. AND it doesn't really matter what kind of
paint I use. It rarely breaks a ball.

The Tippman 98 flatline really isn't worth it.

Firing super fast is for people that need to see their eye doctor to correct
their vision problem that causes them to be unable to aim and him a
target.....

Re: Flatline Users

Its not so much higher priced paint as the need for small bore paint (which by
default
is usually common with higher end paints, but not always... Diablo/Draxxus Blaze
for example
is low cost small bore paint). Flatline barrels rely on the centrifugal forces
of the ball rolling
along the upper surface of the bore to produce the backspin. If you ran a large
bore paint
in the barrel, you wouldn't get any backspin out of the balls.

Hell, even *I* can get a m98 to shoot 9bps if I wanted to. Just because a
gun doesn't have a mouse-click trigger doesn't mean it can't be fired fast,
Mikey. Besides, I thought you used to own a 98? I can't remember a time
when you HAVEN'T laid stake to the claim of "uber-speedshooter from hell",
so at one point you must have been shooting your 98 ultra fast as well.

Re: Flatline Users

I've had good luck using PMI's Big Ball. I think they are considered medium
bore, but they got a pretty tough shell and are pretty round. If you're not
using round paint, you're going to have trouble.

Don't push and run around as hard, play back or middle so you don't tire
yourself out. And try ever third weekend or something, jeez, it takes me that
long to heal the bruises and I'm half your age.

Use the extra energy to master that shift key.

I often take a break in the middle of the day, sit in the shade and yack
with friends for a couple of games, swill a gallon of Gatorade, stretch a
little, decide which gun to use in the afternoon. So after lunch I'm
getting my second wind and can hit the afternoon games with enthusiasm. And
don't be afraid to knock off a game or two early, tempting as it is to do
"just one more," it's nice to be cleaned up and packed while everyone else
is still straggling off the field all stinky and grubby, and you're already
changed into unsweaty clothes and sipping an iced mocha. You might need to
modify your approach to playing so you don't get in quite as many games, but
it would be a shame to quit altogether.

Just remember the story about the young bull and the old bull standing on a
hillside. The young bull says, "Hey, see those cows over there on that
other hillside, how about we run over there and hump a couple of them?" And
the old bull says, "How about we walk over there and hump them all?"

Face it Tony. You're old. Old means you slow down. Dead means you quit. Stay
active and you'll live longer and have more fun doing it.

Try a little woods ball. The pace isn't as fast as speedball unless you want
it to be. ; )

Wow. 4 "fuckit"s in a single post. Dude, seriously, it's time for a
machine rebuild. Or are you one of those pirate boy fucks who doesn't own a
single piece of his own software?

Seriously, it doesn't take much. A few drivers and an operating system, and
you'll be back surfing porn again in no time.
